The Lagos State Office of the Public Defender (OPD) has said that it is ready to partner with all well-meaning individuals and foundations to better serve the good people of Lagos State.

The Director of OPD, Mrs. Olubunmi Adesomoju made this known during the visit of members of the Ceceyara Foundation, an organisation in the vanguard of protecting the rights of children who are victims of sexual abuse and violence, to the Head Office of OPD at Surulere recently.

Adesomoju assured the Foundation of vital support and collaboration, especially through the referral of more cases of sexual abuse children to the Foundation for their intervention where required.

She said, “OPD will not relent in its efforts to continue to forge mutually beneficial relationships with organisations capable of promoting its mandate to bring reprieve and succour to victims of abuse in Lagos State.

Adesomoju further informed the delegation that OPD has continued to train its lawyers in forensic evidence and child advocacy in order to improve their capacity to defend victims of sexual abuse and domestic violence in their quest for justice.

According to her, the Office will work round the clock to ensure that perpetrators of such violence are brought to book and the menace is extensively curbed in Lagos State in line with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s T.H.E.M.E.S agenda on security and good governance for people of the State.

Earlier, the leader of the Ceceyara Foundation delegation to the OPD, Mrs. Detutu Ajibodu said the Foundation has always enjoyed mutual cooperation with the Office, and the visit was to renew the existing working relationship and strengthen future collaborations for improved services to children who suffer from domestic and sexual abuse in Lagos.

According to her, the Foundation partners with different Government Ministries and Agencies with regard to obtaining approvals, human resources and logistics required to achieve their core mission to protect abused children.

She, therefore, requested more interaction with OPD to jointly tackle prevalent incidents of abuse of children happening at the grassroots.

Other members of the Ceceyara Foundation visiting team are Mrs. Bisi Ajayi- Kayode, Ajifowoke Azeez, Cynthia Ibe and Chioma Ileka.
