The unexpected outbreak of the global pandemic, that is Covid-19, has dealt a huge blow to economies around the world, threatening the livelihood and survival of the common man. Nigeria was not exempted from the consequences that followed and measures were hastily put in place to reduce the spread of the virus which included social distancing and a compulsory lock down (quarantine) in selected states across the country.
Unfortunately, this has been at the expense of daily and low income earners who have been unable to go work during this time. As a result, many families were left helpless and unable to provide food for their children.
In response to this dilemma, Beyond The Classroom embarked on a project tagged ‘ The COVID Food Relief Drive’ to provide food palliatives for families in these low income communities who have been gravely affected to ensure that the children in these places were not subjected to imminent starvation.
With the help of the general public and partnerships with organizations such as Her Hub Africa, Naija start-ups community, Tim Godfrey Foundation, CrowdyVest Donate, Laju Iren Inc, Women with Stories International, Mother of May Foundation, we successful raised over $14,000 which has fed 690 families with 6 weeks worth of food per home through this initiative.
With the uncertainty of what is to come Post COVID-19, Beyond the Classroom Foundation is committed to standing with our communities and supporting those impacted by the COVID-19 outbreak. Together, we will overcome this pandemic while making sure the most vulnerable among us have food to stay alive.
